Vasarely and Fajó

One of the two main characters in this novelistic account of art history is Victor Vasarely, the Hungarian-born world-famous op-art artist who lived and worked in France. The other is János Fajó, a visual artist and leading exponent of geometric abstraction who was persecuted for many years in Hungary during the Kádár era.

Our concept combines elements of a traditional exhibition catalog with a novelistic art history narrative. The Vasarely graphic on the cover, chosen as the main image for the exhibition, not only represents the artist's world, but also evokes the historical context of the Iron Curtain era as a subtle reference. The printing solutions used in the publication also reflect the demand for faithful reproduction.

The inserts contain several Pantone colors, gold, silver, and CMYK printing, supplemented in places with machine printing. Throughout the publication, we used 4, 6, 7, and 8-color printing. We achieved a more authentic reproduction of Vasarely's plexiglass artworks by using tracing paper.
