For the World Athletics Championships, our team was responsible for designing the custom medals—several creative professionals assisted us throughout the design and production processes. Reflecting the extraordinary nature of the sporting event, we created an unconventional, elliptical-shaped medal that deviates from the usual round form. This unusual shape echoes the distinctive outline of the stadium and the running track, while the reverse side of the medal features the arena’s crown, reminiscent of a nest. For the obverse of the coin, we created a rendering of the Statue of Liberty featured in the event’s official logo, keeping in mind the specific characteristics of the relief. We first modeled the statue by hand, then digitized the master piece with a 3D scanner, and finally refined it with ZBrush post-processing, adding dynamic drapery.
